Alternative Press is a long-running American entertainment publication dedicated to music and culture, known for championing emerging and underground artists. Founded in 1985 by Mike Shea as a grassroots alternative to mainstream media, the publication helped shape the conversation around alternative music through in-depth interviews, photography, and cultural reporting.
We designed and built the Alternative Press website to translate nearly four decades of editorial legacy into a modern digital platform. The experience balances archive depth with contemporary usability—making music discovery, storytelling, and news accessible in a format built for today’s audience. Through a clean, editorial-forward design system and thoughtful content architecture, the site positions Alternative Press as a living cultural institution: rooted in its history, but firmly oriented toward the future of music media.
